Pick the Atomic Nexus 120 BOA if you're an intermediate or advanced skier seeking the wider starting fit in this pair. Pick the Salomon S/Pro Alpha C BOA 120 if you're an advanced or expert skier with a narrower foot and a carving focus. The Atomic is unisex and the Salomon is a men's boot. Their shared flex number should not distract from the much more useful fit difference.
We haven't tried these two for this comparison.

Wider Atomic, narrower Salomon
The Nexus has a 101 mm last and a high-volume fit. The S/Pro Alpha has a 98 mm last. That puts the Atomic at the roomier starting point, while the Salomon is the more logical first shell to try for a narrow foot.
Use the last width to choose which boot to try first, then check the space above your instep and around your ankles. A narrow forefoot with a high instep needs a different fit from a foot that is narrow throughout. In the Nexus, make sure the roomier forefoot comes with secure heel hold.
At the fitting bench, the Salomon should hold a narrow foot without requiring excessive closure tension. The Atomic should give a wider foot usable space without allowing the heel to rise. If either tradeoff fails, the other boot is not automatically the cure; the shell must match the shape of your foot.
Equal flex numbers, different intended skiing
Both have a 120 flex rating. The Salomon is stiff and aimed at advanced and expert carving. The Atomic is aimed at intermediate and advanced all-mountain use. Start with the Salomon for focused trail skiing on a narrow foot, and the Nexus for a roomier fit across varied resort terrain.
Those intended uses make the Salomon worth examining if you are a strong skier who prioritizes precise trail turns. The Atomic is a more natural place to start if your skiing is spread across the resort and your foot needs its roomier fit.
A lighter skier may struggle to flex either boot, while a heavier skier may prefer the support. Press forward in each shell with your heel down and your knee moving over your toes. The cuff should support that movement without forcing you upright or making you lift your heel to bend it.
Use BOA to fine-tune a good fit
Both boots use BOA adjustment, which lets you make small tension changes as you settle into the boot. Start with gentle tension and flex several times before tightening further. The Salomon should contain a narrow foot comfortably; the Atomic should leave a wider foot room without requiring the closure to be cranked down.
The Nexus has a polyurethane shell and cuff with Prolite shell technology. During a fitting, pay attention to how pressure spreads along your shin and over your foot as you flex it. Repeat the movement in the Salomon and choose the boot that supports a centered stance without pinching or numbness.
Both have GripWalk soles. Have a ski technician check compatibility with your bindings and set the release for your complete setup. Bring the boots you intend to ski in so the fitting and binding adjustment refer to the same equipment.
Which should you buy
Choose the Nexus for a roomier starting fit and intermediate-to-advanced all-mountain skiing. Choose the S/Pro Alpha for a narrower foot and advanced carving, provided you can flex it properly.
The Nexus 120 BOA starts lower in price, but its upper price exceeds the S/Pro Alpha C BOA 120. Our last-width guide and boot-fitting guide explain why fit should outweigh that spread.
