Pick the Nordica Speedmachine 3 85 W BOA if you're a beginner or intermediate woman skier whose foot suits a 100 mm last. Pick the Dalbello Veloce Space 85 W if you want to try a slightly wider 101 mm starting fit at a lower minimum price. Both are women's all-mountain boots with BOA and an 85 flex rating. The fitting session matters more than their small numerical differences.

We haven't tried these two for this comparison.

A small width difference still needs a real fitting

Both boots have a medium-volume fit. Start with the Dalbello if your forefoot needs a little more room, or the Nordica if you prefer closer containment. Then check heel hold and instep pressure while bending your knees into a skiing stance, keeping your weight centered over the feet.

If you have a narrow heel and a broad forefoot, ask a bootfitter to assess both areas together. Choose the shell that leaves your toes comfortable while holding the heel down without excessive tension. In the Veloce, pay particular attention to unwanted movement; in the Speedmachine, check for pressure across the widest part of your foot.

Try flexing into each cuff with the foot seated properly. Your heel should remain controlled without requiring painful tension. If the Speedmachine feels cramped or the Veloce allows movement, a different size or shell may be needed rather than more force on the dial.

Support for learning linked turns

Both use an 85 rating and are aimed at beginner and intermediate skiers. That puts them in a similar shopping conversation for someone learning to link turns and developing confidence across ordinary resort trails.

The Nordica has a medium flex, making it a useful starting point for a skier developing balance and edge control. When trying the Dalbello, repeat the same forward-flexing movement. Choose the boot that lets you move your knees over your toes smoothly while supporting your shin through the motion.

A lighter skier needs to be able to move the cuff without fighting it. A heavier skier who drives hard may want more support than either boot provides. Those needs do not follow automatically from being a beginner or intermediate, so bring your usual pace and terrain into the fitting discussion.

Compare the closures while wearing them

The Speedmachine combines BOA with micro-adjustable aluminum buckles. The Veloce Space also uses BOA and has an overlap construction. Practice small tension changes in each boot, starting gently and flexing before tightening further. The best adjustment is one that keeps your foot secure without squeezing the forefoot or creating a sharp pressure point over the instep.

Nordica uses a women's Performance Fit Primaloft liner; Dalbello uses its Space IF Sport W liner. Wear both long enough during the fitting to notice developing pressure, using the socks you plan to ski in. Check that the tongue sits smoothly along your shin and that your toes remain comfortable after several forward flexes.

The Speedmachine and Veloce Space both use GripWalk soles. If you are replacing an older boot, have the shop check your existing bindings instead of assuming they accept the new sole because the old boots worked.

Which should you buy

Choose the Speedmachine when its slightly narrower starting fit holds your foot comfortably. Choose the Veloce Space when its fit works better and the lower starting price is useful. Do not buy a poorly fitting boot to save a modest amount.
