Carbon Ski Poles

Carbon shafts cut swing weight, so the pole feels quicker through a long day of turns and puts less strain on your shoulders when you hike. They also tend to damp vibration better than aluminum. The trade-off is how they fail: a carbon pole can snap from a hard side hit where an aluminum one would only bend. Think about how you ride before paying extra, particularly if you spend time in trees or on rails. Sizing works the same way as any other pole. Stand in your boots, hold the pole upside down beneath the basket, and look for a right angle at the elbow.
