Insulated Ski Jackets
An insulated jacket makes sense if you ski in cold places or tend to feel the chill on long lift rides. Synthetic fill keeps working when damp and dries quickly, while down gives more warmth for its weight but needs protection from moisture. Heavier fill is not always better, because a jacket that is too warm gets sweaty on the first hard run and then chills you on the next chair. Vents under the arms give you a way to shed heat. Look for fill placed where you lose warmth, such as the chest and back. Try the jacket with a thin base layer, as there is little need for bulky layers underneath.
