Touring Skis

A touring ski spends plenty of time going uphill, so weight deserves a close look. The lightest choice is not always the most comfortable way down. A little more mass can help in crust, wind-affected snow and rough spring conditions. Choose width for the snow you expect and length for both downhill control and uphill kick turns. Check that your skins fit the ski and that your boots and bindings work together. Skip an oversized powder shape if most outings involve long approaches on firm snow. Try to build a balanced setup instead of saving weight in just one piece.
